Fjord Trout Quality

The Quality Standard for Norwegian Fjord Trout is based on a set of rigorous criteria to ensure a consistently high level of quality. 

Norway has become one of the world’s leading aquaculture nations. This is due to a combination of strict health and environmental regulations, close monitoring and continuous work to develop the industry. Combining hard-earned experience, advanced technology and the natural conditions, the Norwegian aquaculture industry is able to produce high quality Fjord Trout worthy of its premium position in the market.

The Quality Standard for Norwegian Fjord Trout is based on a set of rigorous criteria to ensure a consistently high level of quality. To meet this Quality Standard, the Fjord Trout must:

  • Be raised in Norwegian seawater and weigh over 2kg

  • Have an even red flesh colour, a lustrous skin and a natural shape

  • Be packed as soon as harvested, stored and transported with an unbroken cold chain (at 0-4°C) until delivery

  • Be handled only by personnel trained in accordance with Quality Standard Specifications

 

Every registered production facility must:

  • Fulfil with strict Quality Standards (standard nº NS 9412:2010)

  • Provide detailed and complete traceability and quality documentation

  • Be registered by the Norwegian Food Safety Authority

  • Be controlled by an independent third party
